"Act without delay, but with caution" Festina lente (Attr. to Emperor Augustus)

Sharon Hecker was born in Los Angeles, raised in Tel Aviv, and lives in Milan. She came to Italy when she was 21 and stayed for love. She is mom to three boys aged 12 to 19 and - she likes to say - a German Shepherd puppy. Free time for her is a chimera.

She is an art historian, curator, and author, specializing in modern and contemporary Italian art. She graduated from Yale University and received her Ph.D. in Art History from the University of California at Berkeley.

Internationally recognized as an expert on Medardo Rosso, she has published numerous monographs, essays, catalogs, and scholarly studies on the artist. Ms Hecker has curated exhibitions at Harvard, the Pulitzer Arts Foundation, and Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac in London. She taught Art History at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan and was the Academic Director of IES Abroad.

Ms Hecker has won numerous awards for her work on Italian art from the Getty, Fulbright, and Mellon Foundations. For the past 30 years, she has worked with museum institutions such as the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice and the Christian Stein Gallery in Milan. In 1990, she was Project Coordinator for Jenny Holzer, an artist selected for the American Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, who was awarded the Golden Lion. She recently founded The Hecker StandardTM, a best practices approach to conducting due diligence on works of art. She conducts lectures and workshops and advises on due diligence for art to private collectors, art lawyers, wealth managers, family offices, auction houses, and fairs.
