Over two decades, the federal government (regardless of political leadership) invested an average of\u00a0<strong>$100 billion annually<\/strong>\u00a0in young companies. Startups\u2019 adaptability also played a key role, enabling them to pivot their business models and capitalise on regulatory shifts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few standout examples:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>DraftKings<\/strong>\u00a0(now worth\u00a0<strong>$17 billion<\/strong>) seized the opportunity when the US Supreme Court overturned the federal ban on online sports betting in 2018.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>OpenAI<\/strong>\u00a0secured multiple government grants for R&amp;D.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Palantir<\/strong>, the big-data analytics firm, launched after\u00a0<strong>CIA\u2019s venture arm In-Q-Tel<\/strong>\u00a0invested\u00a0<strong>$2 million<\/strong>\u00a0in the early 2000s.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But let\u2019s look ahead. It aims to expand to&nbsp;<strong>13,000 stations by 2030<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Nuclear Company<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The US startup, specialising in large-scale nuclear plant deployment, secured\u00a0<strong>$46.3 million<\/strong>\u00a0to build reactors with\u00a0<strong>1+ gigawatt capacity<\/strong>. Its first fleet targets\u00a0<strong>6 gigawatts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Kate Farms<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The California-based maker of plant-based, organic nutritional products was acquired by&nbsp;<strong>Danone<\/strong>.
